Minimally Invasive Techniques

What is?

The term minimally invasive spine surgery is used to describe a surgical technique where the surgeon uses small incisions with limited muscle retraction and soft tissue damage. As a result, the patient is mobilized more quickly with less post-op pain and the duration of the patient’ s hospitalization is shorter.

The most commonly used minimal invasive spine techniques include:

  • Microdiscectomy.
  • Percutaneous posterolateral fusion.
  • Percutaneous 360ο fusion.

It is performed in the same way with the percutaneous posterolateral fusion with the addition of a tubular retractor in order to insert the interspace cage.
